Daddy-O Lush – Best Smelling Product
If you’ve never heard of Lush before, we’ll keep it short for you. Lush is a brand that has made a name for itself by consistently producing a wide variety of beautiful, unique, high-quality products that are as natural as they come. Each one is handmade with fresh ingredients, and are also completely vegan! With that being said, we had to try their Daddy-O blonde hair shampoo toner.
We weren’t disappointed.
If you have unnatural blonde hair, you may know the struggle of keeping your hair away from that unsightly brassiness that can happen seemingly overnight, at times! Purple shampoo works to fight that and instead brings out the silvery/grayish/ashy blonde tones.
The Lush Daddy-O Shampoo was created for people with hair that has been colored blonde or grey, and for those that are sick of having dull, brassy-colored locks.
Let’s start off with the packaging.
The packaging of pretty much all Lush products are very trendy-looking, begging for you to reach out and grab it. It has a black label, listing off the purpose of the product, and the clear bottle lets you get a peek inside at the dark purple product within.
A problem with many purple shampoos is that they smell chemical-ly, or just downright unpleasant.
Not with this one.
The smell is probably the biggest selling point for us, in fact. Upon cracking open the lid, you’ll be washed over with a beautiful, light smell of lavender, combined with a citrusy lemon/lime/rose scent. We fell in love with the scent, and we’ve yet to find anyone who hasn’t.
With that being said, let’s move onto key ingredients.
As previously mentioned, it does include fresh lime juice. This works to add freshness to the hair, while gently cleansing, and adding a natural shine; actually rejuvenating your strands. You’ll also find the Violet Leaf, which has been traditionally used in folk medicine, for its richness in vitamins. It’s also the main function of keeping brassiness under control. Rose and Bergamont Oils work to hydrate the hair while making sure it’s never greasy.
How often do you typically wash your hair?
If it’s every day, you may find that you’ll only need to wash your hair every-other-day, now, due to how well it cleanses the scalp and hair!
So, with such an amazing product, was there anything we weren’t fans of?
Actually, yes!
It left our hair a bit drier than usual. It definitely wasn’t like straw or anything like that, but just a bit more rough-feeling than normal. This does somewhat diminish after the first day, and start to feel softer, but take note of that.
What We Loved
- Smells amazing
- All-natural, handcrafted, vegan product
- Keeps brassiness under control
- Rich in vitamins; boosts shine and body
What We Didn’t Like
- Dries hair out a bit
Joico – Best Product for Fighting Frizz
A common problem seen in shampoos for blondes is that while it may do a good job at toning the hair color, it leaves the hair looking frizzy and unmanageable. This goes double if you already have naturally-frizzy or curly hair.If this is your case, then check out the Joico Color Balance Purple Shampoo.
If you’ve read any purple shampoo reviews prior to this, then you’ve probably seen Joico on there. That’s because it truly is one of the best.
Harsh lighteners and bleach can make hair even more frizzy, but due to the peptide complex in this formula, it works to keep the hair cuticle lie flat, which gives you that super-sleek, shiny, healthy look.
Designed to be used 2-3 times a week, the shampoo works to tone-correct yellow pigments while simultaneously attaching to the fibers of your hair, and stay attached, even through multiple shampoos. Not only that, but it also works to protect against color fading.
The root-to-tip repair and protection also help to provide you with healthier hair each time you use it. It also makes sure that it not only targets slight yellow undertones but the deep, brassy tones as well. Even just after the first use, you’ll notice a difference in your hair’s tone, and that it is more silvery/ashy, rather than golden.
Oh, and make sure that you’re getting the purple formula, as they also have a blue formula, for brunettes!
So, were there any downsides?
Actually, yes! Similar to the previous product, it actually can dry out a hair a bit, which was a bit odd, considering it managed frizz very well. Oh, and it also includes sulfates, which some consumers do want to avoid.
What We Loved
- Great at managing and minimizing frizziness
- Eliminates light and deep brassy tones
- Root-to-tip repair makes hair healthier and shinier
What We Didn’t Like
- Can dry hair out a bit
- Contains sulfates
R+Co Sunset Blvd – Editor’s Favorite
Looking to shampoo your blonde hair, but are worried about how it’s going to turn out? Worry no more with the R+Co Sunset Blvd Blonde Shampoo. We know that every hair color has different demands and requirements, as far as maintenance goes. Blonde/grey hair probably has the most, which is why choosing the best toners for blonde hair is so significant.
If you’re looking for brighter, bolder hair without the brassy tones that blonde tresses can easily come by, check this one out.
So, how does this purple shampoo work?
The formula has a variety of ingredients, but we’re just going to mention the active ones, which really make the formula. Active ingredients include a natural mineral pigment, a coconut cleanser, and a panthenol derivative.
The natural mineral pigment is often found in purple shampoos for blonde hair, as they’re what is going to help reduce or even eliminate the brassy shades that lighter-colored hair can easily acquire. It can even correct and revive grey hair.
Coconut cleanser is what gives this incredible shampoo a creamy, luxurious feeling. Not only that, but it cleanses the hair by getting rid of excess oil, and excluding any dirt and extras that your hair may be holding on to.
Finally, the panthenol derivative works to keep hair feeling soft and manageable while making sure the natural oils in the hair aren’t removed, which can dry out the hair and scalp.
How is the scent?
It’s amazing; in fact, it’s hard to choose which is the best-smelling between the Sunset Blvd and the Lush Daddy-O. This shampoo with purple toner has a bright, oriental composition, made up of: Juniper Berries, Blood Orange, Rhubarb, Leather Accord, Violet, and Dark Woods.
Were there any downsides?
The only thing we could really think of, was that as the purple shade is a bit lighter than most others out there, it may not get rid of some super-brassy tones. It worked well for us!
What We Loved
- Amazing, natural scent
- Works to clean hair, while retaining softness and natural oils
- Creamy, luxurious feel
- Restores ashy/silver shades
What We Didn’t Like
- Purple shade is lighter than most
Fanola No Yellow – Quickest Working Product
Those with cool-toned and silver locks will love the Fanola No Yellow, and the way it keeps your color looking icy and ashy. No yellow or orange tones in sight with this formula! This salon-quality purple shampoo for blondes is one of the most, if not the most, pigmented purple shampoo we’ve seen. That means that if you need to get rid of deep orange/brassy tones, this one will effectively remove them super quickly!
It works well with bleached, blonde, streaked, or grey hair.
If you’re all blonde, you’ll want to apply the No Yellow from root to tip, concentrating more on the roots, as that’s typically where the brassiness is the most intense. If you have highlights or ombre, just apply where the lighter parts are.
You’ll want to ideally keep it on for a full 5 minutes, although depending on your color, you may only want to keep it on for 2-3 due to the fact that it could tinge your hair a very light lavender by keeping it on for longer.
While this purple shampoo for blonde hair is quick and effective, there were some things we weren’t fans of.
Firstly, is the fact that you need to be extra careful with washing it off. It will stain your fingernails, hands, and even the tub if you don’t wash it off right after applying it. Second, is the smell. It’s not terrible by any means; it’s just not great.
Overall, however, it is a great product that will work to remove brassiness quicker than just about any other out there!
What We Loved
- Works very effectively and quickly
- Very pigmented
- Salon-quality product
What We Didn’t Like
- Can stain nails/hands/tub if not washed immediately after use
- Smell isn’t great
Clairol Shimmer Lights – Most Well Known Product
If you’re new to blonde hair, then you may find that after a couple weeks or so, your blonde is now brassy or yellowy. The best solution for that is purple shampoo, and one of the best among those is the Clairol Shimmer Lights Purple Shampoo.Blonde hair, silver hair; heck, even white hair will benefit from the regular use of this beautiful product!
The blonde hair shampoo toner can be used just once a week if you’d like, or more than once a week, depending on how dry/oily it is, and your personal preferences. Even with just a once-a-week use, you’ll see your faded highlights become rejuvenated, and the dullness becomes bright.
The bottle says to keep it on for 3-5 minutes, but we had a better experience keeping it on for around 7. The longer you keep it on, the faster and more prominent your results will be.
Not only that, but it works to deep-clean hair while retaining the natural oils necessary to keep hair healthy and manageable.
How’s the scent?
It’s pretty average. It doesn’t smell chemical like some other purple shampoos do, but rather has a floral scent typical of your average shampoo. The texture is a bit loose/runny, so you have to be a bit more careful to not waste product because it’s falling out of your hands!
Now, let’s move on to what we didn’t really enjoy.
First, you have to be careful to wash the product off from your hands and tub so that it doesn’t stain. Second, is the fact that it contains parabens and sulfates, which many consumers will want to avoid. Other than that, we think this is a product that really does its job quite well!
What We Loved
- Deeply cleanses hair while retaining natural oils
- Gets rid of brassiness in silver, white, or blonde hair
- Inexpensive
What We Didn’t Like
- Contains sulfates and parabens
- Can stain hands and tub if not washed off after use
ArtNaturals Color Balance – Best Budget Product
Are you searching for the best purple shampoo for blondes but want to do it on a budget? If so, then look no further than the ArtNaturals Purple Shampoo and Conditioner Color Balance and Tone combo. Not only do you receive the shampoo, but you also have a super-hydrating conditioner to further the neutralization against yellow tones!
ArtNaturals is an amazing brand that focuses on consistently producing products that really work; without the use of harsh chemicals or testing on animals. They’re one of the most ethical companies out there, and their products really work.
If you have allergies or skin sensitivities, this combo is also an excellent option!
The shampoo works to gently cleanse color-treated hair. Color-treated hair is already a bit more delicate/weak than our natural locks, so it’s important to find a shampoo that’s going to cater to that. That’s why they’ve made sure not to include surfactants, along with sulfates and parabens. Surfactants strip your color, and we don’t want that; we just want something to tone down the yellow.
Which is what this shampoo conditioner set does.
The pure violet pigment eliminates brassiness while simultaneously rejuvenating the health and shine of your hair!
Their coconut extract works to help hydrate your scalp, along with dry, delicate hair. Dyed or bleached hair can often become brittle, and you may see an increase in frizziness or split ends. The ArtNaturals duo works to restore the bounce and volume while strengthening your hair so that that’s no longer an issue.
The inclusion of Vitamin E in their formula is packed with antioxidants that work to stimulate blood flow in the scalp, bringing necessary vitamins to the hair follicles to help keep hair healthy while promoting faster hair growth!
Something else special about these products?
That they don’t include silicone. Silicone is almost a given when we’re talking about toning and non-toning hair products.
The only possible downside we could think of, is that if you don’t need a conditioner, you may not require the full set. Other than that, it was definitely one of our favorites, and left our hair feeling soft, manageable, and looking nice and silvery-blonde!
What We Loved
- Great budget pack of shampoo and conditioner
- Cruelty-free; doesn’t include parabens, sulfates, or silicone
- Works to remove brassy tones
- Effectively cleans hair while promoting hair health and growth
What We Didn’t Like
- Not necessary if you don’t need a conditioner as well
How To Pick The Right Purple Shampoo For You
Now that you’ve had a look at all of the best purple shampoos for blonde hair, you may still have some questions about which product is best for you and why. If that’s the case, don’t worry! We won’t leave you hanging. That’s the sole reason why we’ve gone ahead and created the buying guide, below. It will guide you through every aspect of the buying process so that by the end, you can rest assured you’re getting the perfect product for you!
Hair Color
First of all, which hair color do you have? No, not your natural color – the one you have now. Is it white? Silver? Grey? Blonde? All of the above? The truth is, that not every purple shampoo is created for the same tones. Some work well for all of the above colors, while others fare better towards grey or more towards the blonde.
As we said, most work well for all of those shades, but pay attention to the description, as some will work better for different shades.
Cost
How much money are you willing to spend on your new purple shampoo? Don’t only consider the price tag, but also how long it is going to last you. Some shampoos only require a bit to work, while others will need more. Also, some will leave your hair feeling clean for days, while others will require you to wash your hair every day or every other day.
Some bottles are much larger than others, too, so they may have a higher price, but will ultimately cost you less, in the end. In addition, take into consideration the consistency of the product. If it’s runnier you may end up wasting product due to it running out of your hands!
Smell
This is always relatively important when choosing a hair product, but we feel it is even more so when choosing a purple shampoo for toning blonde hair.
Why?
Because many purple shampoos have a chemically smell that’s honestly undesirable for just about everyone. You’ll want to choose a shampoo that has a nice smell; ideally, one that’s more natural-smelling and smells like something you’d actually enjoy having around all day long.
Conclusion
While we genuinely enjoyed each of the purple shampoos on our guide today, there were a couple that really stood out to us. The first is the R+Co Sunset Blvd Purple Shampoo.
The packaging is outstanding, but we really loved the smell of the natural ingredients that wasn’t overwhelming. It is full of natural ingredients, and each has its own purpose. The creamy, luxurious feel was unmatched by any other on the market, and it worked well to get rid of brassy tones, which is the whole point of the shampoo, right?
The other one we also really loved was the ArtNaturals Shampoo and Conditioner Duo.
The lack of harmful ingredients and the fact that it’s cruelty-free really speaks a lot about the kind of company it is and the quality of the products they put out. Not only that, but it’s a great budget product where you get both shampoo and conditioner at a great price.
So, which one of these purple shampoos for blonde hair will be making its way into your shower?
